Enjoying Family Time

Posted February 21, 2012 / sara

The evenings and weekends are the best times for families to spend time together. Whether that be a dinner out, family game night, or an afternoon at the park, these are times we, as parents, want to cherish the most. As a Mom to three children under the age of 9-yrs-old, I know that these moments, the moments we long for as a family, are few and far between. Life gets busy with working parents, extracurricular activities, sports, church, and even exhaustion. (more…)

Searching for Quality Family Time

Guest Blogger: Xenia from Thanks, Mail Carrier

Although our schedule does vary depending on the day, events that come up, and my husband’s work, typically my family’s evenings and weekends tend to resemble each other.

Meaning: they’re boring.

Happy Go Lucky

Guest Blogger: Kara of Happy Go Lucky

As a mother of a 3 year old, teacher and a Navy wife, time spent with family is the thing I most treasure.  Creating lasting family memories helps savor our experiences together.  I don’t think it is something that requires money; it just requires a little planning.  My husband and I leave our work at work and focus our time at home on spending quality time together as a family. Empowering Children to Give

Posted February 10, 2012 / Louise

Guest Blogger: Louise from Momstart.com

How do you teach your children something like giving, through example, repetition or experience? All are great ideas and ways to empower children to accomplish things and learn. For use it’s about all three. Through my blog I’ve had many amazing opportunities to help the community. I’ve participated in a national toy drive locally two years in a row and as we review toys we receive to review the children know that they don’t get to keep very many of them because we find kids in need in our community to give the toys to. We’ve also taken them shopping to pick out toys to give to kids in need. So they’ve seen the example. (more…)

Indulge in Yourself

Posted February 1, 2012 / Barb

Sometimes we can be so focused on helping our kids develop into healthy, driven, and responsible people that we don’t give ourselves and our development a second thought. Just as we indulge our kids to make sure they feel happy and loved, we have to remember to pay the same kind of attention to our own needs: it’s not selfish to want something good for yourself too! As we discussed with our friend Betsy Brown Braun, there’s no “right time” for healthy indulgence and positive reinforcement, not for your kids and not for yourself. (more…)

Can You Turn Kitchen Time Into Time With Your Girlfriends

Posted January 17, 2012 / Hope

Guest Blogger Hope from A Busy Mom’s Slow Cooker Adventures

Sometimes I feel like what goes on in our kitchen is a “big secret.” Some of us menu plan, some of us fly by the seat of our pants each week and others call for take-out! For those who love to cook, cooking is something pleasurable that we take pride in. For those who don’t like to cook, or feel they “can’t cook,” cooking is just a daunting, necessary task. Many of us feel so alone and so lost in our own kitchens. (more…)

Do you over indulge your children?

Posted January 11, 2012 / Jessi

Do you over indulge your children? When asked that question I had to really sit back and think do I over indulge them, am I a pushover who gives in to what they want just to keep the peace or do I parent them with careful calculations on everything we do and ensure they are learning the proper meaning of the word no?

A cake fit for a King: la Galette des Rois

Posted January 6, 2012 / Webmaster

Guest Blogger: Lisa Baker Morgan of www.chefmorgan.com

For Christians, January 6 is l’épiphanie (the Epiphany) and the French celebrate it with la galette des rois (also known as the “twelfth night cake” or simply “king cake”). Today, the tradition of la Galette des Rois extends beyond the religious context and is enjoyed by everyone.

This recipe is a fun one you can do with your children. It is akin to making a sandwich (except you get to paint it with egg wash and carve designs in the puff pastry top). Your kids will have fun making the crown too!

Musings of a Housewife

When Jen and Barb asked, “Do You Have a Recipe That All Your Friends Rave About?”, I had to stop and think for a minute. Not because I wasn’t sure IF I have a recipe that my friends rave about… but because I couldn’t figure out which one to share!

Finally I settled on Herbed Chicken Rosé. This is a recipe that I received as a young bride-to-be in a recipe box that was a gift at one of my bridal showers. My mother-in-law threw me a bridal shower and had all of her friends fill a box with their favorite recipes, and many of those have become tried and true recipes in our family’s dinner repertoire. This was almost 17 years ago, and I’m still making it at least once a month, so you know it has to be good! What is Your Passion?

Posted November 14, 2011 / Dee

Guest Blogger: Dee from Cocktails with Mom

Everyone has a passion but not everyone knows what it is. Until I had children, I never  knew what my true passion was. Growing up, I always knew I wanted kids and marriage but not before the career. Luckily for me, I managed to do them all. After graduating college with a degree in Business Administration, I entered Corporate America and worked as a Recruiter and Special Events Coordinator. I loved those jobs and worked at them passionately. Several years into my career, I received the best news ever! I became pregnant with my first born and suddenly a passion to become a stay at home mom became my goal. (more…)
