Family Vacations: Stressful, Relaxing, or Both?
Guest Blogger:Crissy of Dear Crissy
During my childhood, I went on a few special vacations with my family, but unfortunately we were not able to take a vacation every summer.
However, the vacations we did take as a family helped solidifiy the importance of annual summer trips in my mind. I knew that when I became a mother I would make every effort to ensure our family took a vacation each year.
Of course, traveling with kids isn’t exactly easy, and family vacations come with their own unique set of problems and reasons to stress.
Will the kids behave on the car ride? Who is going to watch the house while we’re gone? Have we packed enough of this, that, and the other?
It really seems like the time leading up to a family vacation can put a huge amount of stress on the family, and it’s true, sometimes the vacation itself isn’t entirely relaxing.
Still, I just can’t help but defend the family vacation. I feel like I missed out on a lot of quality time with my family growing up, and as long as we’re able, I want to make sure we spend as much time as possible vacationing as a family. This time is so special, and the opportunity to be separate from our daily lives is invaluable.
Let’s not forget the precious memories we create with our families while on vacation. Even the difficult or stressful situations encountered while on vacation will eventually be just one more funny story for our mental scrapbooks.
Overall, I always enjoy our family vacation time. In fact, I long for these times throughout the year, and I think that pre-planned family vacations give everyone something to really look forward to as a family. In fact, I’m looking forward to our upcoming family vacation right now.
