What’s your New Years Resolution?
I personally feel that New Year’s resolutions are like expecting our
husbands to start helping more; futile and just setting us up for disappointment.
Having said that, I just can’t help having a few. Here they are:
To actually follow through with the empty threats that I now give my kids. I
have to figure out a way that No means No. Right now it actually means: no in
this moment, but if you cry, scream of keep whining, I will be so beaten down, I will say yes.
To finally accept that no matter how much I want my husband to be involved in
helping out around the house or maybe having a clue what the kids schedule is,
that he is deficient and truly unable. If I could do this, I may actually like him again.
To learn how to say what people want to hear, not what I truly feel.
You may think the way I do it is best and honest, but trust me, people
don’t want to know what you really feel.

Ok…what i came away with after reading your very brilliant insights is this! ACCEPTANCE! so corny..but in so many ways, so true…and it seems to apply to all three…when kids are mad because we have said NO..firmly and sincerely..they may freak out..but if you take a deep breath and stay calm..and keep moving and stick to your guns..i have found that..though it may be a little noisy for a while, and you may be embarrassed in the middle of Target… when you get to the other side?… they are fine and move on…my husband will only help as much as HE WILL help..and i am usually ok with that..if i don’t expect too much..i am not disappointed..AND as you said, again, brilliantly..people rarely enjoy brutal honesty..but it does mean you are a true friend..b/c often the truth hurts!
